I disagree with the take that the internet is dead

This is something I see a lot on the internet. "The internet is dead", "The internet is just bots", or some variation of it. Here's the thing I kinda disagree.

Keyword "Kinda" because there was studies done that showed that there are a lot of bots on the internet, and It's dumb to pretend that there isn't a problem with AI.

But everytime I hear somebody says something about the internet being dead, it's always the same 5-7 sites.

Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Reddit, and maybe once in a while I hear something about Bluesky or Discord.

That's where my disagreement with the statement comes in because the internet isn't the handful of sites, it's millions upon millions of pages, blogs, sites, articles. Being posted every single day.

Bear blog is one of the many proof of that seeing how friendly everybody is in my experience and the amount of people just posting their thoughts.

Moments a site for sharing photos that was inspired by bear

Neocities and Nekoweb has a lot of websites made by people passionate about creating and sharing stuff.

I met a lot of friendly people through forums one time even forming a friend group because of a forum (Forming because of a forum heh...)

The amount of art sites I seen is crazy too, You probably heard of Cara in more recent days, but there is also Newgrounds, Sheezy, comicfury for people with webcomics, and even more site that I can't really name here because it contain more "Spicy" artworks.

Marginalia, Wiby.me, and Ytoo all search engines dedicated to looking for more sites, and cool stuff.

These are all just off the top of my head. There are still so many cool sites about discovery, Sharing ideas, fill with soul, not made for a profit, and is just downright beautiful.

if we look at a bunch of paintings and see one that is just poo smeared all over a canvas with urine. We don't call all the paintings bad, we just say the one specific one sucks

So why when it comes to the internet we see the same handful of sites filled to the brim with shit we just claim the internet sucks?

Hyperbolic question I know the answer. Despite all the sites I just listed... Nobody knows any of these sites. Some of these you might of heard of for the first time.

On top of that these sites are a lot more slower, modern social media was designed to be addictive as possible and hard to leave.

Honestly that kind of breaks my heart a bit, we have so many sites that proves the internet still has heart and soul, but either people don't know about it, or they do but just can't break away from the slop because the people who designed these made it as addictive as possible.

I am optimistic though about how I feel more and more people is breaking away from this, and logging onto the alive internet.

But we're a bit sidetracked here, my main point is that I feel that the internet is nowhere near dead. Yes the mainstream sites like twitter is basically dead, or just incredibly shitty to use.

But the internet as a whole I strongly say no, and I will stick by it. I want more people to know that they don't have to keep wallowing in pure slop and that there is an escape.
