I MUST CONFESS! As a blender artist I don't like using rigify.
The whole room falls silent, everybody too shocked to speak at this stunning revelation. What was only seconds felt like years in those quiet moments the room became cold like the silence was the only thing keeping it warm. Vidknight decided to speak...
Alright so maybe the intro was a little bit too dramatic for what's simply me talking about why I don't like a blender tool, BUT NEVERTHELESS!
If you don't know what rigify is it's quite simply a blender add-on that generate1 a rig for your character that been around for years at this point possibly older than me.
Rigify is a great tool to help modelers to easily create charcter rigs and it's a popular tool for that reason, and it's a tool that so many recommended to use, but I got to be real.
I don't like using it. Yes despite how much people sings the add-on praise I just hate using it, but why tho? There's a lot of reason, but lets start with a more simple one.
Wow so many bones I will never use!
When you use rigify you get a lot of bones when you generate a rig. Makes sense why, but what that means is now there are a bunch of bones I straight up have no use for.
Example the tweak bones in my time of posing stuff and more recently animation about a year ago, I never once needed tweak bones to me these are just unnecessary.
Another is the finger IK bones once again I never need to use this it's just pointless bones taking up space and making my rig look more messy.
You can just edit the rigify rig and make as many changes you want though!
Yea that is true, but honestly I feel that with the amount of changes I need to do to make the rigify rig to my liking is just crazy that I might as well make my own rig.
I feel that by making my own rigs is honestly pretty good and give me a better understanding on how rigging works and how to make a rig that not only looks easy to understand, but also easy to use which is pretty important.
I'm no saying that I don't take shortcuts either when it comes to rigging I usually do this thing where I copy an already made character rig and paste it too the character I'm creating and slightly tweak it to fit the character
I do recommend to any blender artist to make at least on rig from hand one time to get an understanding on how all of this work.
Should note this isn't me talking down on any rigify user it's great tool that been here for years and make rigging easier to understand and faster for a lot of people, whilst still being open ended enough as to complete replace the need for character rigging.
Just for me... yea I just stick to making my own, and copying to all my characters.

Note just because I use the word generate here doesn't mean it uses AI↩
