I want more stuff to end, and I'm NOT kidding!
Something that been bothering me for the past couple of days possibly week even, is how little stuff just... ends.
Now what do I mean by that? I mean movies that constantly keep getting sequels, tv shows constantly get new seasons, endless spin offs, reboots, remakes, updates, nothing ever just dies!
Of course there is nothing wrong with everything I mentioned above there are multiple times where I'm fine with it, the problem comes from just how common it is, and how poorly implemented it is. it seems somewhere along the line we just don't let stuff end.
I'm an animation nerd, so I'm going to bring up animation as an example, The simpsons, FamilyGuy, Spongebob, what do all of these have in common? they been around sense the 90s and still is going!
Looking at the gaming side there are so many games that are just expected to be constantly updated forever, and need something new, or else the game is dead!
Fast and the furious with the ten billion sequels that gets more and more away from the original idea of the first movie.
I can go on, but I think at this point you get it, now you might be saying "Ok, that's good and all, but why is that a problem." and for that I have 3 reasons for why this is a problem in my opinion
The series will decrease in quality the longer it goes on, now of course this isn't true for everything, but I feel that the longer things go on, the more the people behind it will need to make up stuff for it to go on, and it can get to the point where things just upright don't make sense anymore in the story, or contradict each other.
it leaves no room for new ideas, this isn't me saying new stuff ain't popping up, or that people don't leave their comfort zones but it makes it harder for people to justify trying new things, because, why would they if the thing they like as a kid is still getting new stuff.
It makes us less appreciative of things, I remember when smiling friends ended, I was a bit bummed out, but I feel because it ended I felt more appreciative of what we had.
In all honesty I feel that art in general, and I mean all art forms, should have an ending, art is not something that can last forever, everything in life has to end eventually and I feel its better for art pieces like movies, shows, and games to die out in its prime and be remembered as something great instead of just constantly limping around for 20+ years on life support, and especially give room for other ideas to flourish and grow.
