Random Long Rambles

Project progress thing #1

So like I mentioned in my last blog post1 I wanted to start showcasing my progress in projects I do mostly as a way to motivate me to actually get stuff done, so here the first out of however many of these I plan on doing.

Today I worked on the little animation I'm doing where I repurpose one scene for the "Cooking With Vid" Animation jam project and turn it into about a minute or so animation.

Main reason I'm doing this is mostly because I didn't want the voice actors talents to go to waste so I wanted to at least do one scene where both of them was present.

I started this project about a week ago, and didn't touch it until today. I really want to finish this so lets go over the stuff I did today.

I did some basic modeling. Created a dumpster for the background and that one of the characters will interact with. A door for well door things, what else do you think a door is for?

But the biggest thing I did and the thing I'm most proud of was creating a hole in a wall!

Alright this is going to take a bit to explain. You heard of a impact silhouette? Basically it's this cartoon gag where a character runs through a wall and leaves a hole in the wall that is just there full body including stuff like clothing, and accessories.

Basically I wanted to have something like this in my animation, but the problem was how exactly do I do this.

At first I thought about just a simple transparent image shrinkedwrapped on the wall, but then I thought. "Can't I convert the image into a SVG and make it a mesh?"

The answer was YES!

The reason I feel so proud of this, was because I encountered a problem, but instead of throwing my hands into the air, and giving up. I thought it through with my skillsets and found a solution that works really well!

Even though I ain't do much animating and only did about 2 1/2 hours of work on this thing I'm still overall happy and I feel I have a better understanding on where to go with this.
