About new art style
Hey in case you didn't know I'm a 3d artist, modeler, and animator. I have not talk about anything related to this in basically forever. When it comes to my own style last time I talked about it was APRIL!?
So we're practically overdue for a post like that here. So no time like the present lets get to it!
Left is old style, right is current one.
Alright first lets start with stuff that didn't change, the cel-shading is still the exact same, the method I used before, I still use it's such a good way to cel shade that make art look good, that I don't really see a reason to change it.
Everything else tho, changed a fuckton. The outline method I used to use was the inverted hull method. A very common way to add outlines with the only caveat being it double the amount of faces on any model.
Good for models with very little faces, but if your model has a good amount it can add a lot, Also the problem of having a scene filled with inverted hull outlined objects is insane.
I tried different methods until I landed on the compositor editor. I have so much to say about the compositor editor, that it can be its own blog post, but long story short I use the compositor for the current outline method, and it works pretty well.
Only problem is that it can be somewhat weird with celshading, but I feel some good lighting and this problem basically goes away.
Next up the body, First thing you might of notice is how my characters actually have fingers now, I always could model hands with fingers, I just didn't since I felt it would be more annoying to animate, but truth be told. Not really...
Worse case scenario it add like a hour to the animation process which sounds like a lot, but the tradeoff for more expression, and gestures the characters can make it honestly a fair trade-off.
Another thing is my characters actually have a body, before I use to model only the clothing, All good, but if I wanted to give my characters different clothing, IE a tanktop, or shorts, it would add way more work.
Now with a body, making clothes is pretty easy, barely an inconvenience.
Truth be told I have a lot of different things I want to talk about, but I'm lowkey getting tired right now, almost 9 PM where I'm at, so I'm ending this blog here. I do want to talk more about my adventures in blender, so look forward to that.
